Professor Iain Atherton leads our Health, mental health and social care research programme.

He is Professor of Nursing and Data Science at Edinburgh Napier University, with expertise in population health and has previously worked in clinical nursing practice. He studied MSc Medical Demography at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine before completing his doctorate at the University of St Andrews.

He is interested in care provision in the context of an ageing population, including that provided informally as well as by health and social care professionals.
